Cooperation project between the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Ludwigsburg Hospital and the Hôpital Évangelique UEEB Bembéréké in Benin / West Africa
This cooperation was agreed upon at the beginning of 2017 with the aim of raising awareness of pediatric surgical problems at this general hospital and developing the skills to tackle them.
The first 2-week mission took place at the beginning of November 2017 and has been followed by 8 more so far. The plan is for 1-2 missions a year.
In addition to children with congenital malformations and typical pediatric surgical problems, we also treat many children with cleft lips and palates as well as children who have contractures as a result of severe burns. We always operate with the surgeons on site and introduce them to the most common surgical procedures. The entire team in the operating wing and on the surgical ward as well as the neonatal intensive care unit also becomes more familiar with pediatric surgical patients.
